Wynot girls earn big first-round win over Winside

WYNOT — The Wynot Lady Blue Devils built a big lead in the first half and went on to defeat the Winside Wildcats 58-26 Tuesday in their SubDistrict D2-5 game.

Wynot dominated on both ends in the first two quarters as they raced to a 32-6 halftime lead and advanced to play Randolph,who was a 55-46 winner over Santee.

The game is on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. at Wynot.

The Lady Blue Devils would place 11 players in the score book lead by Karley Heimes with 16 points and Emersyn Sudbeck with 11 points.

Winside was led by Brooklyn Behmer with eight points and Natalie Kruger contributed six point to the Wildcats offense.

Wynot got off to a fast start with six points from Karley Heimes and four points from Kendra Pinkelman as they raced to a 12-4 first quarter lead.

Natalie Kruger provided all the scoring for the Lady Wildcats with four points.

Katie Topp hit Winside’s only field goal of the second quarter as Wynot’s full court pressure gave the Lady Cats fits. The Blue Devils got a pair of 3-pointers from Emersyn Sudbeck and one by Allison Wieseler along with four points each from Autumn Lawson and Karley Heimes as their lead ballooned to 32-6 at halftime.

Winside was able to find some offense from long range in the third quarter. McKenna Russell, Brooklyn Behmer and Hannah Gubbels all hit from behind the arch for the Lady Cats. Wynot countered with four points each from Krystal Sudbeck and Karley Heimes as well a bucket each from Amber Lawson and Emersyn Sudbeck to maintain a 44-19 lead going into the final period.

In the fourth quarter Winside got five more points from Brooklyn Behmer and a basket in close by Kati Topp. Wynot continued to find scoring oppor-tunities from their reserves with four points from Amy Tramp, as well as buckets by Autumn Lawson and Kayla Pinkelman to make the final 58-26.
