Wildcats top Randolph in first-round action

LAUREL - Talk about facing a familiar foe.

For the second straight game, Randolph and Hartington-Newcastle squared off on the basketball court.

The Wildcats once again earned the victory during the SubDistrict play-in game, but this time they had to work a lot harder to get the ‘W’.

The Cats built a 14-8 firstquarter lead, but Randolph regrouped in the second frame to outscore the Purple and White 12-11 to whittle the halftime deficit to just five points - 25-20.

The Cards came out strong in the second half, posting a 12-6 run to take a 32-31 lead heading into the final frame.

HNS used solid shooting and a tough defense to pull away in the final eight minutes to earn the 10-point win.

The Wildcat offense was led in the contest by senior Kobe Heitman, who came up with an impressive doubledouble of 18 points and 14 rebounds. Isaac Bruning chipped in with nine points.
