Wynot falls to Winnebago in overtime

WYNOT — The Wynot Blue Devils lost a heart-breaker to the Winnebago Indians in overtime Friday night at Wynot. The Blue Devils had chances to win the game both in regulation and in the overtime period, but it was not to be, as the Indians escaped with the 61-57 win.

The loss overshadowed an outstanding individual performance by the Blue Devils’ Anthony Haberman, as he burned the nets for a game high 26 points and snared 15 rebounds. Garrett Lange hit double figures as well, with 11 points.

Ed Payer and Anthony Earth lead the Indians attack with 13 points a piece.

In the opening quarter, Wynot got baskets by Peyton Wieseler, Trystan Heimes, Garrett Lange and Anthony Haberman. Winnebago got six points from Ed Payer and a 3-pointer by Jaron Pric,e as they took an early 13-10 lead.

Anthony Earth got hot from long range in the second frame, raining in a trio of 3-pointers and scoring 11 points in the period. Wynot hung close thanks to 3-pointers by Anthony Haberman and Owen Sudbeck, and a bucket each by Colin Wieseler and Peyton Wieseler, as they trailed 29-25 at halftime.

Anthony Haberman rallied the Blue Devils in the third quarter. He poured in 11 points to fuel a 15-8 rally. Winnebago got a pair of buckets from Jeriah Greyowl but Wynot had taken a 40-37 lead into the final period.

In the fourth quarter, Winnebago got 3-pointers from Duran Blackfish and seven more points from Ed Payer. Wynot countered with balanced scoring, with buckets by Colin Wieseler, Trystan Heimes, Garrett Lange and Anthony Haberman. Wynot could have sealed the game but only went 1-4 from the freethrow line and regulation ended with the score knotted at 49-49.

Winnebago would outscore Wynot 12-8 in overtime to earn the 61-57 win.
