Trio of Cedar County athletes earn All State honors

OMAHA — A trio of Cedar County volleyball athletes picked up some of the highest post-season honors in the State this week.

Cedar Catholic junior Megan Heimes was named to the Class D1 First Team All State team, while teammate Abby Hochstein was named to the Second Team All State team.

Wynot sophomore Karley Heimes was named to the Class D2 Second Team All State team.

The 5-4 Heimes was Cedar Catholic’s defensive leader all season long, as she wasn’t afraid to hit the floor to pull out a dig.

The junior libero ended the season with 342 digs this year. She was also a threat from the service line, firing 22 ace serves over the net.

Hochstein led Cedar Catholic at the net this season with a team-high 324 kills. She was second on the team in blocks, sending 13 back for points. Hochstein was also Cedar’s best server, firing 42 ace serves over the net.

Cedar Catholic had five girls named to the All State Honorable Mention team. Aiden Wortmann, Brynn Wortmann, Laney Kathol, Kenlee Goeden and Tori Arens all earned statewide recognition for their efforts.

Karley Heimes led Wynot at the net with a team-high 187 kills. The 5-11 sophomore was also third on the team in blocks with 38. She also contributed with 127 digs and eight ace serves during the regular season.

Wynot had six girls earn Class D2 All State Honorable Mention status — Whitney Hochstein, Edyn Sudbeck, Shaelee Planer, Katelyn Heine, Emersyn Sudbeck and Noelle Wieseler.

Laurel-Concord-Coleridge had two girls named to the Class D1 All State Honorable Mention squad. Kinsey Hall and Erica Wolfgram both earned the honor for the LCC Bears this year.

Jaiden Taylor and Abbie Schmit both earned All State Honorable Mention status for Randolph this season.
