Ponca boys cruise past Wynot Blue Devils

WYNOT — The Ponca Indians used a big 21-10 third quarter scoring burst to pull away from the Wynot Blue Devils, as they rolled to a 60-43 win Thursday.

Ponca’s record improved to 13-2 while the Blue Devils’ season mark fell to 5-11.

Ponca was led by a trio of double figure scoring led by Carter Kingsbury who took scoring honors with his 22 points. Bryar Bennett’s steady play resulted in 14 points and Brandon Kneifl chipped in with his 12 points.

Wynot got a steady game from their big man Garrett Lange who hit for 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double. Peyton Wieseler hit a pair of treys on his way to 10 points.

Wynot hung in the game in the first quarter thanks to a pair of 3-pointers by Peyton Wieseler and four points in the paint by Garrett Lange.

Ponca got balanced scoring with four points by Brandon Kniefl, and a basket each from Bryar Bennett, Paul Masin and Zach Fernav, as they held a 13-10 early lead.

Garrett Lange dumped in seven more points for the Blue Devils in the second quarter. Carter Kingsbury countered with eight points for Ponca and Bryar Bennett hit for five points, as the Indians increased their advantage to 30-20 at halftime.

Ponca’s offense heated up in the third quarter.

Kingsbury hit two more treys on his way to nine points and Brandon Kneifl and Bryar Bennett both dropped in five points, helping Ponca go on a 21-10 run to increase their lead to 51- 31 going into the final quarter.

In the fourth quarter, Wynot got three more points each from Garrett Lange and Anthony Haberman, but Ponca got a 3-pointer from Chase Phillips and buckets by Taylor Korth and Bryar Bennett, as they earned the big 60-43 win.
