Lady Wildcats roll up a pair of big wins
HARTINGTON — The Hartington-Newcastle girls basketball team used the home-court advantage to their favor for two games last week.
The Lady Cats put together a 55-12 drubbing of Winside Tuesday, then easily topped Plainview 50-31 Thursday.
Abbe Morten led all scorers in Tuesday’s contest, hitting for 22 points. Kayden Jueden also hit for double figures, against Winside connecting for 11 points.
The Purple Cats blanked the Red Cats 16-0 in the first frame. HNS then allowed a single free throw to their visitors in the second frame to take a 31-1 lead into the locker room. Coach Josh Morten substituted liberally in the second half, allowing Winside to put up 11 points to the 24 for HNS.

The HNS defense was once again tough to slow down on Thursday as the Lady Cats held the visiting Plainview Pirates to just one first-quarter point. Plainview managed to hit for seven points in the second frame to trail 27-8 at the break. The two teams played evenly in the second half, both putting up 23 points, allowing HNS to sail to the victory.
Abbe Morten once again led all scorers, pumping in 29 points to eclipse the 1,000-point mark for her career.
