HNS falls on last-second shot to Lady Bears

Posted in:

HARTINGTON — The Hartington-Newcastle Lady Wildcats fell on a lastsecond shot Tuesday, then fell to one of the best shooting teams in the state Friday.

In Tuesday’s matchup with Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, the Lady Cats looked to have the game under control in the early going.

The hosts held a 27-18 lead at the half before the Lady Bears came out hot and outscored the Wildcats to turn that deficit into a three-point lead.

The Lady Bears switched to a pressing defense in the third quarter to slow the Lady Cats down. That strong defensive effort helped the Black and Orange to put together a 20-8 third-quarter surge to get back in the game.

The two teams traded baskets and the lead throughout the final 12 minutes.

It looked like the contest was headed to overtime until Kinsey Hall grabbed an in-bounds pass then put up a turn-around jumper that found the bottom of the net just before the buzzer went off to give LCC the 47-45 victory.

Kinsey Hall scored a game-high 25 points to pace the Lady Bears in the win.

Hall had a double-double with 12 rebounds and also led the team with four steals.

Hartington-Newcastle was led by Alivia and Abbe Morten. Alivia ended the game with 16 points, while Abbe had 15, despite missing much of the second half.
