Cedar girls post 2-1 mark during the week

HARTINGTON — The Cedar Catholic Trojans put together a 2-1 week on the hardcourt last week, defeating Creighton and splitting a pair of MidState Conference games.

Cedar got out ahead of Wayne early, leading 12-5 after the first frame, but the Lady Blue Devils bounced right back in the second frame to outscore Cedar, 13-4, to give the Devils a two-point lead at the break.

Cedar poured it on to open the second half, outscoring Wayne, 24-9, to take control of the game. Brynn Wortmann and Mackenna Noecker led the offense with 17 and 15 points, respectively.

Defense dominated when Cedar took on the state-rated West Point Guardian Angels team.

They stayed close in the first half, but GACC eventually pulled away in the second half to earn the 10-point win.

Cedar was led in the contest by Mackenna Noecker’s 12-point effort.

Cedar Catholic head coach Craig Wortmann said he has been pleased with the way his team has been playing defense lately.

The Lady Trojans will go up against another staterated foe when they take on Crofton in the first round of the MidState Tournament. Cedar drew the seventh seed for the tourney, while Crofton is the second seed.
