Big win over Wynot keeps Osmond streak going

Posted in:

OSMOND — The Wynot Blue Devils made the trek over to Osmond Friday to do battle with the Tigers in Lewis and Clark Conference action.

The Tigers built a 21-14 first half lead and pulled away in the second half to earn the 50-28 win.

Wynot’s defense would hold up early in the game but they struggled all night on the offensive end. A 28-9 advantage by the Tigers in turnovers played a factor in the outcome of this game as well.

Wynot was led by Garrett Lange with 10 points and five rebounds in the paint.

The rest of the Blue Devils struggled to get open looks against the tight Tiger defense. Anthony Haberman led the team in rebounds with 12 boards.

Osmond put three players in double figures led by seniors Justus Maertins and Keaton Timmerman with 16 and 12 points respectively. Sophomore guard Grayson Schultze also hit double-figures with his 10-point effort.

The two teams started slowly in the game. Peyton Wieseler hit a trey for Wynot and Osmond got a pair of jumpers from Justus Maertins as the Tigers squeezed out a 6-5 early first quarter lead.

In the second quarter Wynot got a trey from the left corner by Jack Kuchta and buckets on the inside from Hunter Heimes and Garrett Lange. Osmond countered with five points each from Adam Chishiba and Grayson Schultze as the Tigers took the 21-14 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The third quarter saw the Blue Devils mount a small rally with buckets by Trystan Heimes, Jack Kuchta and Garrett Lange. Osmond made a late push with Keaton Timmerman’s six points in the paint and Justus Maertins two short jumpers to increase their lead to 35-24.

In the final frame a pair of baskets from the low post by Garrett Lange was all the scoring Wynot could muster. Keaton and Maertins each dropped in four more points and the Tigers hit their free throws to pull away for the 50-28 win.
