1983: AT&T antitrust suit could hurt local phone customers

HARTINGTON — The Hartington Midgets were eliminated from District play Sunday when they lost to Ponca 4-2.

They advanced to the semifinals by skimming past Coleridge 10-9 on July 19.

HARTINGTON – Teresa Mc-Quay, Wausa, and Dana Fairchild, Terril, Iowa, were married June 18 at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church in Bloomfield. Fr. Donald Kros officiated the wedding.

HARTINGTON – Costs for the local telephone service could increase 300 to 400 percent on Jan. 1, 1984, according to Bill Dendinger, Hartington Telephone Company manager.

He said the increase is because of telephone deregulation caused by a settlement of an anti-trust suit filed by the justice department against AT&T.

HARTINGTON – The grand champion holstein in the dairy division of the Cedar County Fair, was shown by Eric Heimes. Heimes won the two-year old division and showed the trophy winner in the Cedar County Special Category.

HARTINGTON – Carla (Peitz) Taylor, Ponca, was a gold and bronze medal winner at the Cornhusker State Games.

She won the gold in the 50 meter free style swim contest and the bronze in the 100 meter free style swim contest.
