1958: Becker, Kast open Hartington Feed and Chick

HARTINGTON — A car driven by W. M. Lenzen, Randolph, went into a ditch south of Crofton Monday afternoon. This did considerable damage to the car but Lenzen escaped uninjured.

HARTINGTON — The Hartington Fire Department spent about two hours Tuesday night fighting a blaze in an alfalfa stack on the James Meier farm about a mile south of the Hartington airport. About half the stack was destroyed.

The fire started after the stack was struck by lightning.

HARTINGTON — Sales of Series E and B bonds in Cedar County during the first six months of this year totaled $492,159 . July 24, 1958 HARTINGTON – Don Becker and Al Kast, Hartington, will set up shop at the Hartington Feed and Chick Store.

The store will carry a complete line of all Purina products.

HARTINGTON – Mr. and Mrs. Al Werthman, of the Art Center Studio, received national recognition this week when six of their prints were accepted to be part of the National Photographers Convention in Chicago.

COLERIDGE — It was revealed this week that a youth in the vicinity of Belden has been soliciting, and in some instances receiving donations, in the name of the Boy Scouts in the Coleridge area.

Scoutmasters Lawrence Fuchs of Belden and Robert Yost of Coleridge wish it to be known that neither Troop is conducting fund raising drives and requests no money be given to the youth.

The individual is not connected in any way to the organization for which he has been collecting funds. The national organization of Boy Scouts of America is in the process of investigating.
