NRDs Encourage Well Owners to Address Concerns Early
HARTINGTON – The region has been experiencing lower than average rainfall over the last several months and one heavy irrigation pumping season could result in significant declines in groundwater levels. Dry conditions lead to increased irrigation use, which puts increased pressure on the groundwater resources of the district, and potentially results in decreased groundwater recharge. It is important to keep in mind how pumping may affect other groundwater users. Conservation of water resources should be a high priority for all.

NORFOLK – In 2022, in a proactive measure and in response to the acute drought that took a commanding grip in northeast Nebraska, the Lower Elkhorn Natural Resources District implemented restrictions on wells pumping more than 50 gallons per minute, until the drought decreases in intensity.
