Wynot rally falls short against Walthill

WALTHILL — Wynot battled Walthill in an east-west division matchup in Lewis and Clark action Tuesday.

In what has become a recurring theme for the Blue Devils they hung tough in the first half, rallied to make a tight game of it in the third quarter but had trouble finishing and, as in this one, lost the game that was close until the final minutes.

Wynot put four players in double figures in a balanced attack.

Garrett Lange led the way with 16 points, Peyton hit four three pointers on his way to 15 points and Owen Sudbeck and Anthony Haberman both had solid second halves to finish with 14 and 10 points respectively.

Walthill also posted a balanced attack on offense. Tyrell McCauley took scoring honors with 21 points followed by Kallen White Eyes with 15 points. Kaylon Tebo also hit for double figures with his 11 point effort.

Walthill would take an early lead thanks to seven points from Tyrell McCauley and four points each by Kallen White Eyes and Jalen Merrick. Wynot got a pair of buckets in the paint from Garrett Lange but was in the hole 17-6 after the first quarter.

The two teams would trade buckets in the second quarter. Wynot got a pair of treys by Peyton Wieseler and six more points in the paint from their center Garrett Lange . Kallen White Eyes hit a pair of treys for Walthill as they maintained a 29-20 halftime advantage.

In the third quarter the Blue Jays would get 6 points from Zander Lovejoy. The Blue Devils would mount a furious rally behind a trio of three pointers by Owen Sudbeck and one each by Anthony Haberman and Peyton Wieseler as they closed the gap to 35-33 with one quarter to go.

In the fourth quarter Wynot got six points from Peyton Wieseler and five from Anthony Haberman but the game would slip away. Walthill got eight more points from Tyrell McCauley and three pointers by Kallen White Eyes and Kaylon Tebo and hit 11-17 charity shots to seal the 67-58 win
