Wynot girls earn a pair of big L&C wins

WYNOT — The Wynot Lady Blue Devils picked up back-to-back wins over conference teams in action just before the Christmas break.

On Friday, Wynot rolled over the Wausa Lady Vikings, 62-21. Then Saturday night, continued their winning ways as they easily dominated the Randolph Lady Cardinals, 56-12.

It was pressure defense that helped carry the day for the Lady Blue Devils in both games.

On Thursday, Wynot held Wausa to single digit scoring in every quarter and built a quick 31-10 halftime lead and cruised to the win.

The Blue Devils had 10 players enter the scorebook, lead by 14 points from Michaela Lange and 12 points from Shalee Planer, as well as eight points each from Katelyn Heine and Kaitlyn Heimes.

Wausa was lead by Morgan Kleinschmit who finished with seven points and six rebounds. Clara Schnidler hit a pair of buckets for the Lady Vikes.

In the first quarter, Wausa got a pair of fieldgoals by Kleinschmit and four points from Schnidler. Wynot was led by eight points from Planer and five points by Lange as the Blue Devils roared to an 18-8 early lead.

In the second quarter, the Lady Vikings went cold and were held to just two freethrows in the period. Meanwhile, Wynot got another three by Lange and six points from Kaitlyn Heimes as they increased their lead to 31-10 at halftime.

It was more of same as Wausa’s struggles continued on the offensive end only getting a bucket each from Kleinschmit and one by Esther Nelson. Wynot went on a 13-4 run, with a trey by Autumn Lawson and buckets by Noelle Wieseler and Lange to increase their lead to 44-14.

Reserves mopped up in the final quarter. Ashlynn Timmerman hit a three-pointer and the Lady Vikings had a basket each from Alexa Cunningham and Abrielle Nelson.

Wynot answered with baskets by Karley Heimes and Edyn Sudbeck to help make the final tally 62-21.

On Saturday night the Wynot Lady Blue Devils stayed hot as they rolled over the Randolph Lady Cardinals in a big way, cruising to a 56-12 win to stay undefeated in conference play.

The young Cardinals had trouble handling the relentless pressure put on them by the Lady Blue Devils and were held to just 4-26 shooting on the night.

Wynot was led by their senior guards with Katelyn Heine leading the way with 12 points and followed by Michaela Lange and Shalee Planer with nine points each.

Randolph got a three-pointer from Jessa Backer and a bucket each from Natalie Munter and Keeley Pinkelman to lead them in scoring.

Wynot would get seven quick points from Lange and a trey by Heine to lead them to a 15-4 first quarter advantage. Randolph got field goals by Munter and Pinkelman.

Wynot’s defense completely shut down the Lady Cardinals in the second quarter.

A second trey by Heine and buckets by Emersyn and Edyn Sudbeck along with one by Lawson fueled a 17-2 run to put the Lady Blue Devils up by a big margin, leading 32-6 at the half.

The Lady Devils dominance continued in the third quarter. Randolph’s Backer hit an early three-pointer for the Cardinals, but then it was shut down mode for their offense after that. Wynot got four points each from Planer, Heine and Karley Heimes to increase their lead to 46-10.

Wynot would finish off the Lady Cardinals with a final 10-2 run to end the game. Whitney Hochstein hit a pair of buckets in close and Emersyn Sudbeck hit a mid-range jumper to help make the final score, 56-12.
