Posted in:

WYNOT — The Wynot Lady Blue Devils hosted the Ponca Lady Indians in a Lewis and Clark Conference game on Thursday night.

Wynot would go on an 18-1 second-quarter run that was the turning point as the home team improved their season mark to 11-2 with the 47-31 win.

The two teams will have a quick turnaround as they are scheduled to meet in the first round of the conference tourney on Saturday.

Wynot’s Kinslee Heimes continues her steady play as she hit a quad of three pointers on her way to a game-high 15 points. Kenna Oligmueller is not playing like a sophomore as she hit double figures with 12 points.

Kayla Pinkelman helped with nine points and six rebounds for the game.

Ponca was led by Alix Hughes with 10 points and Emerson Ehlers just missed double figures with nine points in the game.

The teams started out evenly. Alix Hughes hit a pair of buckets and Emerson Ehlers had a putback for Ponca. Wynot countered with seven points alone from Kinslee Heimes and a basket in the paint by Kayla Pinkelman to hold the 9-7 lead at the end of one period.

In the second quarter Ponca went cold and Wynot’s defense clamped down as the Lady Devils went on an 18-1 run.

Wynot had a balanced attack with five points each from Kinslee Heimes, Kenna Oligmueller and Kayla Pinkelman. Allison hit a long three pointer from the right wing as well and Wynot took a big 27-8 lead into the locker room at halftime.

In the third quarter it was punch, counter-punch.

Emerson Ehlers worked the inside for five points and Alix Hughes drained a three-pointer for the Indians.

Wynot got seven big points from Kenna Oligmueller and a bucket from Kayla Pinkelman as Ponca gained little ground still trailing 38--17 going into the final frame.

In the fourth quarter Wynot got three-pointers from Myrah Sudbeck and Kinslee Heimes and a basket by Jaylin Geisen.

Ponca went on a mini rally thanks to four points from Ava Voss and a basket each from Lily Korth, Elsie Keller, Alix Hughes and Emerson Ehlers but the hole was too deep as Wynot earned the 47-31 win.
