Wynot’s offense explodes again for another huge victory

WYNOT — The Wynot boys basketball team improved its season record to 6-1 as it took care of business Dec. 19 by dispatching the visitors from 0-4 Irene-Wakonda, S.D., by a final tally of 78-33.

Wynot coach Lee Heimes had a chance to use his entire bench in this one as the Eagles struggled against the Blue Devils’ quickness most of the night.

The home team put four players in double figures, led by Dylan Heine, who took scoring honors for the game with 16 points. Kasen Koch worked the low post for 12 points. Zack Foxhoven hit a trio of three-pointers on his way to 11 points and Chase Schroeder recorded a doubledouble with 10 points and 13 rebounds.

Irene-Wakonda was led by Jens Hansen and Hayden Hansen with eight points each. Jens Hansen had all five of the Eagles’ first-quarter points.

The Blue Devils got six points in the paint from Schroeder and three pointers from Foxhoven, Heine and Carson Wieseler as they roared to an early 17-5 advantage.

Wynot expanded its lead in the second quarter as it went on a 28-6 blitz.

The run was fueled by a pair of treys by Foxhoven, Koch worked the offensive glass for eight points and Heine drove to the basket for five points as well.

Hayden Hansen hit a trey and Jens Hansen had a basket plus one for the Eagles, but the Blue Devils were pulling away, leading 45-11 at halftime.

Irene-Wakonda showed some signs of life in the third quarter thanks to a three-pointer by Brody Johnke and buckets by Noah Hansen, Sam Hansen and Cain Healy.

Heine hit twice from long range and Schroeder added four points to his totals for Wynot as the Eagles could not gain ground, trailing 60-23 after three quarters.

Reserves mopped up in the final frame. Hayden Hansen hit a trey and Sam Hansen had a basket plus one for the Eagles.

Devin Brummer hit twice from three-point range, Kotner Koch also drained a trey and Killian Steinhaus hit a floater in the lane for the Blue Devils as they earned the 78-33 win.

Wynot next is in action when it will travel to the Humphrey St. Francis Holiday Tournament Dec. 28-29.
