Virtual Relay for Life event is slated for Sunday in Randolph

Posted in:

RANDOLPH — The annual Cedar County Relay for Life event will take place in Randolph Aug. 30 — sort of.

Most of the usual events connected with Relay for Life had to be scrapped due to the coronavirus pandemic, but a Virtual Luminaria Drive Through will still be held Sunday, from 5-7 p.m., in Randoph.

At 5 p.m., Sunday, a survivor table will be set up near the Randolph City Pool so survivors can collect their gift bags

The luminaria event will begin at the Randolph City Swimming pool and then head south and then west in front of the Veterans Memorial, before heading north again.

The length of the drive all depends on how many luminarias are sold, organizers said.

Even though the event had to have some drastic changes this year, the fundraising is still needed, said 2020 co-chairman Sandra Kuhlman.

“Our only way of getting donations this year is for the people to donate or buy a luminaria,” she said.

The luminarias are $10 for each name. Anyone wanting to purchase a luminaria should contact Lois (Ron) Lammers of Hartington, Trisha Reifenrath of Laurel, or Sandra Kuhlman of Randolph.

Also, there will not be any T-shirt give-aways this year.

“I feel really sorry for everyone who has been looking forward to getting them, but it just won’t happen this year. I want to truly thank all of our sponsors who have already so generously given their dollars to this cause,” Kuhlman said.

Anyone with questions is urged to email Kuhlman at kuhldude@cableone.net.
