LAUREL — Virginia M. Lindsay,82, Laurel, died Oct. 27, 2023, at Hillcrest Care Center, Laurel. Funeral services will be Nov. 1, at 10:30 a.m., at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Laurel, with the Rev. Jeffery Warner officiating.

Burial will be at the Laurel cemetery. Visitation wasTuesday, at church, and will continue Wednesday, one hour prior to services. Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Laurel. Pallbearers will be Ashley Noble, Cole Prescott, Carter Prescott, Ashton Lindsay, Whitney Lindsay and Tali Erwin. Virginia Mae was born Dec.28, 1940, to Edgar Raymond and Lydia Alice (Kopping) Schmitt. She grew up on a farm south of Laurel and attended country school near her home. She graduated from Laurel High School and attended Wayne State College, where she earned a teaching certificate and taught elementary school. She married Archie Keith Lindsay Aug. 19, 1962, in Laurel. The couple resided in Laurel, in the former Immanuel Lutheran Church for over 57 years.

She was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Lutheran Woman’s Missionary League (Ladies Aide).

She enjoyed the outdoors, planting flowers and spending time with family. She loved her family dearly.

Virginia is survived by her husband, Archie, Laurel; four children and spouses, Lori (Brian) Noble, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Scott Lindsay, Laurel; Michelle (Brad) Prescott, Sioux City, Iowa; Cory (Jewell) Lindsay, Ramona, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Cole (Paige) Prescott, Ashley Noble, Ashton Lindsay, Whitney Lindsay, Carter (Ashleigh) Prescott, Darius Lindsay and Harper Lindsay; a brother, Gary (Marlene) Schmitt, Laurel; a sister ,Leanne (Dave) Carstensen, Wynot; and many relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Lydia Schmitt; a brother, Ray Schmitt; two sisters-in-law, Janice Schmitt and Doris Lindsay.
