HARTINGTON – Cedar County is proud of the fact that they lead Nebraska in the number of swine produced each year. We now have another “1st” to be proud about. The final summary of the 1962 statistics show that Cedar County leads the state in both cow numbers and milk produced.

The 11,400 cows produced 73,560,000 pounds of milk in 1962 to edge Gage county out of the first place rating.

The number of pigs raised in Cedar County was 228,540 in 1962, an increase of 33,660 from five years earlier. The number of cattle on feed was 43,200 on January 1, 1962, as compared to 30,300, on January 1, 1958. Although the total number of beef cows has not changed very much from 1958 to 1962, there are some indications that increases did occur in 1963. The number of acres in crops and hay have shown a small decrease since 1958.
