Lady Trojans pick up first win at Norfolk

NORFOLK — The Cedar Catholic Lady Trojans picked up their first win of the season Monday night in Norfolk.

Cedar was hot from the start in this one. The Lady Trojans jumped out to a big 18-7 first-quarter advantage.

Abby Hochstein and Brynn Wortmann paced the first-quarter outburst, both dropping in five points in the frame. Aiden Wortmann hit a jumper and a pair of free throws for four points, while Brooklyn Kuehn and MaKenna Noecker both added a bucket.

The Lady Knights were able to regroup in the second frame, though, outscoring Cedar 15-9 to cut Cedar’s halftime lead to five points, 27-22.

Defense dominated in the second half.

Cedar only managed seven points in the third quarter as Noecker, Hochstein and Aiden Wortmann all hit jumpers and Brynn Wortmann was 1-2 from the free throw line. The Lady Knights mustered eight points of their own to cut their deficit to four points, 34-30, heading into the final frame.

Cedar hit its free throw shots in the final frame to earn the 12-10 scoring advantage and pick up the six-point win.

Abby Hochstein and Brynn Wortmann led the Cedar offense on the night.

Hochstein connected for 13 points, while Wortmann dropped in 12 on the night.

O’NEILL — The Cedar Catholic Lady Trojans got off to a slow start Friday and never recovered against the O’Neill Lady Eagles.

O’Neill took control in the early seconds of the game, racing out to a 17-6 first-quarter advantage.

MaKenna Noecker paced the offense, dropping in a career-high 17 points. Aiden Wortmann also hit for double figures with 11. Wortmann earned a double-double on the night, as she also yanked down a team-high 10 rebounds.
