WINNER, S.D. — JoAnn Carpenter, 96, Winner, S.D., died Oct. 30, 2021, at the Winner Regional Long Term Care Center, Winner.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Nov. 3, at 10:30 a.m., at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Winner.

Visitation and a Rosary were Nov. 2.

Burial will be Nov. 3, at 2:30 p.m., at the Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, Armour, S.D.

Arrangements were under the direction of Mason Funeral Home, Winner.

JoAnn (Lammers) Carpenter, was born July 27, 1925, near Hartington, She was the daughter of John Lammers and Ella (Wiebelhaus) Lammers. She attended Mt. Marty College, Yankton, S.D., then worked as a keypunch operator in Omaha, for the Union Pacific Railroad prior to her marrying Vernon Aug. 22, 1953. They shared 66 years of marriage until Vernon’s death Nov. 24 2019.

A devoted wife and mother, she later worked as a teacher’s aide in the Armour, S.D., elementary school system.

JoAnn was a great cook and baker, essentially never serving a meal without dessert. She enjoyed cross-stitch, ceramics and making her children and grandchildren their favorite recipes. She was also a devout Catholic, active in Armour’s St. Paul the Apostle church, an avid reader who volunteered at the local library and a kind-hearted, well-respected woman in her community.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Carpenter (Dan Flynn), Winner S.D.; her son, Mark, Mill Spring, N.C.; her grandchildren, Grant (Erin) Flynn, Tristan and Sean, Pierre, S.D.; Katie (Jessie) Harris, Ayden, Lucia, Jesse, Mylah, Telon, Tobias and Isreal, Winner, S.D.; and Jamie Flynn and Shyne, Tucson, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her siblings, Jerome Lammers and Rosemary “Babe,” (Lammers) Kohls.
