Hoesing picks up gold medal at Winside

WINSIDE — The Cedar Catholic Trojans walked away from Saturday’s 14-team Winside Invitational with four medals and an eighth-place team finish. Eric Hoesing moved to 19-2 en route to claiming the gold in the 170-pound division. Cedar’s Kerby Hochstein earned runner-up honors in the 138-pound division. Conner Hochstein also earned runner-up honors in the 145-pound division. Nash Albers had a solid outing, finishing in fourth place in the 132-pound division. He was pinned in his first match, but bounced back in his second match to earn a 5-0 decison over Pierce’s Ethan Dohman. Albers followed that up with a second-period pin over Viborg-Hurley’s Kaedon Maunu. He then dropped his next match, a 13-0 major decision to Battle Creek’s Dylan Ahlman All three of Kerby Hochstein’s first matches took less than 39 seconds as he picked up three quick pins. Hochstein pinned Joshua Jansen of GACC in 1:05 in his final match of the day. Conner Hochstein lost to Millard North’s Brian Petry by a 5-2 decison in the 145-pound title match. Eric Hoesing pinned Winside’s Mason Topp in 1:51 to earn his championship match win. Hoesing ended the day with three pins and 8-0 major decision.
