Posted in:

HARTINGTON — The Hartington-Newcastle Wildcats earned an easy Classic Tournament first-round win over Winside here Thursday.

The Cats jumped on the gas to take control early and never looked back, racing out to a 19-7 first-quarter lead and extending their lead to 38-10 at the halftime break.

The Purple Cats outscored the Red Cats 21-9 over the final 16 minutes to seal the win.

HNS was led in the contest by Shaye Morten, who pumped in 25 points and dished out six assists.

Teagan Scoggan also hit for doublefigures in the contest, collecting a careerbest 12 points. Scoggan led the team on the boards, cleaning the glass for six rebounds.

The Wildcats were hot from close in, connecting on 63 percent (27-43) of their field goal attempts. Their long distance shooting was a little cold, though, only connecting on 1-7 from behind the arc.
