High School Bowlers compete at State

NORFOLK — With the new high school program taken over by the Nebraska High School Coaches Association, the Northeast Nebraska pod, which includes seven schools, Hartington, Norfolk Catholic, Plainview, Boone Central, Wisner-Pilger, Wayne and Newman Grove, was able to have its tournament in Norfolk.

There were no District competitions as all teams were able to participate

Format for all divisions, Men’s, Women’s and junior varsity was: Bowl seven games of Bakers format, take half of the total games’ pin count. Put the teams in a bracket format and then bowl another seven games in the Bakers format, taking all of those pins adding the half of the first seven games. This total put you in a bracket for the finals.

Each round of the finals format was to win three out of five Bakers format.

In the Men’s Division, after bowling the 14 games of Bakers, the Hartington Men were sitting in second seed, giving them a bye in the first round of the finals, just missing the first place spot by 18 pins.

In the second round, the men bowled Plainview. Plainview went on to win this round

So the men did not advance to the finals, finishing in third place. Plainview was the eventual State Champion.

Team bowlers were Wyatt Wiebelhaus, Colin Potts, Charlie Dendinger and Aiden Gratzfeld.

Fourteen Bakers games scores for finals bracket placement were, First Round: 191, 138, 115, 200, 129, 179, 139; Second Round: 86, 157, 147, 199, 161, 147, 149

Men’s awards were presented based on the yearly average of top 10 bowlers:

Charlie Dendinger -10th place, Alternate team, honorable mention Aiden Gratzfeld, fifth place, Alternate team, Scholarship winner

Colin Potts, first place, Alternate team, Scholarship winner

Wyatt Wiebelhaus, second place – first team, Scholarship winner

In the Women’s Division, after the 14 games of Bakers, the women were seeded in third place.

Bowling the first round of the finals, again best three out of five games of Bakers, the girls were unable to get the three wins and therefore did not get to the finals, placing fourth for the tournament. Wayne was the State Champion.

Team bowlers were Meredith McGregor, Grace Kleinschmit, Rebekah Pinkelman and Faith Pinkelman.

Fourteen Bakers games scores for finals bracket placement were, First Round: 116, 112, 109, 109, 141, 108; Second Round: 105, 127, 184, 113, 134, 118

In the Junior Varsity Division, after the 14 games of Bakers, the JV bowlers, with only two bowlers, shared a team with Norfolk Catholic. They were seeded second and went on to earn the “Runner Up” position.

Fourteen Bakers games scores for finals bracket placement were, First Round: 104, 114, 110, 107, 111, 127, 101; Second Round: 96, 127, 116, 100, 116, 84, 124

Team bowlers were Jeremiah Polak, placing fifth on the alternate team, scholarship winner; and Jack Stevens.

Team Coaches include Mike Emanuel and Nate Holan, Varsity Men and Women, and Becky Polak Junior Varsity Boys.
