Group hoping for ‘pork’fection for annual barbecue event

COLERIDGE — The Coleridge Community Club is inviting everyone to pig out for a good cause.

The club is expecting about 10 teams to participate in its annual Rib Fest set for Saturday, Aug. 5, and even more people to come and eat and vote for their favorite appetizers.

Rib Fest competitors will be provided with racks of ribs and will start grilling at 10 a.m. at the Coleridge ball park with gates opening to the public at 11 a.m. Gate fees include voting tickets where people can sample and vote for their favorite appetizers.

“There’s a People’s Choice where people can walk to each booth and eat as many ribs as they want to,” said event organizer Jenni Bartling.

The community club selected judges to award prizes for first through third for best ribs.

Rib Fest entrants come from across the region with participants expected from Sioux City, Iowa, and Norfolk, among other towns.

Along with a full belly, those attending Rib Fest will be treated to entertainment.

Inflatables will be set up for children during the day. Cornhole and sand volleyball tournaments will also take place at the event.

Door prizes for both adults and children will be a part of this year’s event as well as vendors set up at the park.

People are encouraged to bring their own beverages and lawn chairs for the festivities, Bartling said.

Bartling said pre-registration is strongly encouraged for Rib Fest whether it’s to cook, or to play cornhole or volleyball or all three.

Money raised from Rib Fest will go toward the Coleridge Park.
