Galen F. Hartman

LAUREL — Galen F. Hartman, 88, Laurel, died on May 29, 2019, at Hillcrest Care Center, Laurel.

Visitation was Sunday at the Wintz Funeral Home, Laurel, and continued Monday at the church, one hour prior to services.

Funeral Services were June 3 at the United Methodist Church, Laurel, with the Rev. Isaac Chua officiating.

Burial was at the Laurel cemetery.

Pallbearers were Ryan Schutt, Jacob Schutt, Mitchell Hartman, Jon Mullen, Darin Hartman and Ben Kneifl.

Galen Francis Hartman was born Nov. 18, 1930, near Newcastle, to Bert and Marguerite (McClary) Hartman. He attended school in Maskell and Newcastle and graduated from Newcastle High School in 1948. Galen was drafted into the United States Marine Corps in 1952. He married the love of his life, Joan Christiansen, Aug. 7, 1954, at the Crawford Valley Methodist Church, Plainview. Galen and Joan permanently located in Laurel, where Galen was employed by the Laurel Coop Creamery, later known as AMPI.

Galen was a member of the United Methodist Church and was active in the Laurel Chamber, the Lions Club, and also served as president. He helped set up the Nebraska Dairy Fieldman’s Association and served as its first president.

Galen is survived by his wife, Joan, Laurel; three children Monte Hartman, Casper, Wyo.; Debra “Deb” Schutt, Sioux City, Iowa; Troy Hartman, Laurel; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother and spouse, Derwin (Alice) Hartman, Elkhorn; and two sisters, Mildred Christiansen, Elkhorn, and Sharon (Russ) Breitkreutz, Wisner.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Marguerite Hartman; brother, Fay Hartman; two sisters, Shirley (Ken) Hammer, and Donna (Jerry) Beck; son-in-law, Dennis Schutt; and grandson, Micah Lynn Hartman.
