Four Cedar wrestlers earn medals at Stanton invitational tournament

STANTON — Cedar Catholic finished sixth at the Stanton Invitational wrestling tournament Saturday.

The Trojans had four medal winners at the meet.

Kerby Hochstein (138), Eric Hoesing (170) and Jacob Keiser (182) all earned runner-up finishes, while Keegan Carl placed third at

106.

Plainview easily outdistanced the field to earn the team title at the 13-team tourney.

Plainview scored 202.5 points and had seven individual champions to claim the title.

Hochstein advanced to the title match by earning pins in all three of his preliminary matches. His fastest stick of the day came when he pinned Pender’s Ritschel to the mat in just 11 seconds.

In the championship round, Hochstein needed a 10-4 decision over Plainview’s Tunender to advance to the title match. He lost the first-place match to Plainview’s Christensen, falling to a second-period pin.

Hochstein now boasts an 8-2 record on the season.

Hoesing earned a quick 27-second pin in his first match of the day. He ended up falling to Stanton’s Borgmann in the title match, losing by a pin with just seven seconds left in the first period.

Hoesing now boasts a 6-2 record on the season.

Keiser racked up the points in his first match of the day before earning a technical fall over Stanton’s Schmidt, with a 19-3 decision. In his next match, Keiser made quick work of Madison’s Rodriguez, pinning him in just nine seconds. In the championship match, Keiser fell in a second-period pin to Plainview’s Hammer.

Carl lost his first three matches of the day, but bounced back to claim his last two and earn the bronze medal. He now boasts a 2-9 record on the year.

Nash Albers competed at 132 pounds in the tournament. He ended up going 0-4 on the day.

The local wrestling team will be in action next Saturday when the squad travels to Elgin to compete in the Elgin / Pope John wrestling tournament.
