On Deck

CEDAR CATHOLIC Games this Week: None. Next up, 4 p.m. Dec. 27 at Wayne State College vs. Hastings St. Cecilia. Outlook: The Lady Trojans will be off after Monday’s game against Norfolk Catholic and then it’s off to Wayne to take on St. Cecilia. Last week’s results: Lost to O’Neill, 61-49 Coach Craig Wortmann Comments: “Against O’Neill, we struggled to break the press but were able to get it to six points late in the fourth quarter.  We are continuing to work hard and make improvements.”    HARTINGTON-NEWCASTLE Games this Week: 6:15 p.m. Friday vs. Walthill Outlook: The Lady Wildcats have been able to hold the upper edge against Walthill the past few years and the expectations for the coaches is to see the girls improve on the offensive side of the ball and get more girls involved in scoring. Last week’s results: Lost to Wakefield/Allen 60-44, Lost to Piece 61-42 Coach Josh Morten Comments: “We had lapses in both third quarters. It seems as though we keep giving up a lot of points in those quarters, so we need to fix that. Pierce shot extremely well from three-point range against us. Believe it was 50 percent or better. They had 10 three points on the night. We did a lot of good things and hustled very hard throughout both games.” WYNOT Games this Week: 6:15 p.m. Friday vs. Wausa; 4 p.m. Saturday at Randolph Outlook: The Lady Devils hope to improve on their execution on offense while becoming a better defensive transition team. That part of the game hurt them in the loss against Guardian Angels. Last week’s results: Lost 48-39 to Guardian Angels, Beat Osmond 60-16. Coach Steve Wieseler Comments: “Against Guardian Angels we got off to a fast start and were ahead 18- 4 after the first quarter.  GACC did a nice job of coming back and tied the game late in the third quarter and pulled away with a 48 to 39 win.  We did not shoot very well after the opening quarter and struggled on defensive transition.   We rebounded well beating Osmond.”
