BOONE, Iowa — Corrine Backman, 97, Boone, Iowa, died peacefully Oct. 8, 2023, at Westhaven Community, Boone, with family by her bedside.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 12, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Wynot.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall Streets, Boone.

Corrine was born in Troy, Ala., Oct. 17, 1925, the daughter of Frank and Cordie Durden.

She married Albin J. Backman, Fort Bragg, N.C., in 1944. They had two children, Jerry and Shirley. They made their home in Wynot, where Albin was a mechanic and Corrine worked as a cook. In 1995, Corrine moved to the Boone area to be closer to her family. She took care of everybody and enjoyed cooking for them all.

Corrine is survived by her daughter-in-law, JoNell Backman, Ogden, Iowa; daughter, Shirley Roberts, Boone, Iowa; grandchildren, Shari (Steve) Brennan, Washington state; Brenda (Jim Meldrem) Backman, Story City, Iowa; Neil (Sharon) Promes, Yankton, S.D.; Clayton (Marti) Roberts,Albuquerque, N.M.; Trevor (Peg) Roberts, Leavenworth, Kan.; and Taylor (Saundra) Roberts, San Diego, Calif.; great-grandchildren, Josh Brennan, St. Cloud, Minn.; Samantha (Luke) Sondermayer, Washington State; Jacob, Alivia and Isabell Westergarrd, Yankton, S.D.; and Madison Promes, Yankton, S.D.; Morgan and Rowan Roberts, Albuquerque, N.M.; Katlin Roberts, Kansas City, Kan.; Hunter Roberts, California; Tatiana, Greg, and Tavo Roberts, all of San Diego, Calif.; and two great-great-grandsons, Sawer Jerry Sondermayer, Washington state; and Easton Roberts, Kansas City, Kan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albin, in 1994; son, Jerry, in 2022; two sisters and three brothers.
