Corps announces that Gavins Point releases will remain high

Posted in:

YANKTON, S.D. — U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials said last week that releases from Gavins Point Dam near Yankton will remain at their current levels through the end of the month.

The Corps says it will continue releases from Gavin’s Point at or near 80,000 cubic feet per second for the rest of November.

The higher than normal flow release is in place so they can make sure reservoirs further upstream have room for a runoff next spring

The Corps has also lowered the runoff forecast for this year. It is now projected to be 60.2 million acre-feet of water which would place it second to 2011’s all-time record of 61 million cubic feet per second.
