Cedar Catholic defense does in Crofton

Posted in:

CROFTON — Cedar Catholic got off to a slow start in this District battle here Friday, but rebounded to earn a 13-7 victory and stay unbeaten in the District.

Crofton opened the contest by forcing the Trojans to punt on their first possession, then putting together a nine-play, 70-yard drive to score with just over four minutes left in the first quarter.

Jimmy Allen was responsible for much of Crofton’s early yardage. He sealed the drive with a 14-yard TD scamper through the Cedar defense. Cody Crosley then booted the extra point.

Cedar was unable to score again on its next possession, but the Trojans finally found the right combination after that.

Cedar took advantage of a short field to put together a six-play, 59-yard TD drive with just :48 seconds left in the first half.

A nice Tate Thoene sideline scamper put the Trojans in the red zone. He then connected with brother Myles Thoene in the endzone for an 8-yard TD pass. Ted Bengston then came on to boot the extra point and knot the score at 7-7.

The battle in the trenches proved to be the difference in Friday’s District game here.

The two teams again traded possessions for most of the third quarter before the Trojans found paydirt with just a few ticks left on the clock.

Jacob Keiser finished off a solid Cedar drive with a 4-yard TD run. This time the kick missed its mark, though, and Cedar led 13-7 heading into the final frame.

Defense again dominated in the fourth quarter as neither team could get anything going.

Jacob Keiser led the Cedar offense on the night, as he rushed for 107 yards on 25 carries.
