LAUREL — The Laurel-Concord Bear football team picked up win number eight when they shut-out Clarkson last Friday night 46-0.

LAUREL — Mr. and Mrs. Jim Westadt, Laurel, welcomed their daughter Shawn Lynn into the world Oct. 27.

LAUREL — The Laurel Bear football team blanked Madison last Friday night 56-0. Larry Smith was named Outstanding Lineman. Doug Felber was named Outstanding Back.

LAUREL — Dan Patefield and Jean Milander were named outstanding 4-H boy and girl at the annual 4-H Achievement Program held Oct. 22 at the Hartington auditorium.

LAUREL — Nancy Stohler is one of 12 Nebraska 4-H Club members named state award winners. Goodyear sponsored Stohler in the competition.

COLERIDGE — Five students from Coleridge will attend the All-State Music Clinic in Fremont Nov. 15-17. They are Alan Benson, Kerry Hefner, Rod Meier, Julie Schrieber and Julie Smith.

COLERIDGE — The Coleridge Bulldogs cruised to an easy win over Winside 34-13 last Friday night to take the Clark Division title. The Bulldogs collected a total of 177 rushing yards and 140 passing yards.

COLERIDGE — Brian Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Smith, has been awarded a $500 scholarship from the Granite Falls Ara Vocational Technical Institute in Minnesota. Smith was one of five students who received a scholarship awarded by the J. M. Fauver Company.

COLERIDGE — A demolition crew has started razing the old drug store building in Coleridge. The building has been standing there since 1896.

COLERIDGE — The newly constructed dining room at the Broadway Tavern opened this past week and provides customers with some elegant surroundings.

COLERIDGE — The Recreation Club met last Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Franklin Hefner. Plans were made to have the Club Christmas party Dec. 17 at 7:30 p.m. After the meeting, cards were played for entertainment.

COLERIDGE — Thanks to some costly turnovers made by Bancroft-Rosalie, the Coleridge Bulldogs had no trouble getting the 36-16 victory.

HARTINGTON—Cedar County is facing a major problem with teen alcohol abuse, Cedar County Attorney George Hirschbach said. Hirschbach addressed the problem of underage drinking in Cedar County at the Cedar County Commissioner meeting.

LAUREL — Two students, Brittany Dietrich and Julia Hartnett, represented Laurel Public in the All-State Chorus this year. Eleven seniors have been practicing since July so they could be prepared for the auditions.

LAUREL — The Laurel-Concord/ Coleridge Bears’ football team defeated Wakefield 20-7 this past week which qualified them for the C2 playoffs.

LAUREL — A newly organized 4-H archery special interest group is being organized in Cedar County for 4-H youth ages 8-18.

A mandatory meeting for both interested youth and adults will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m., at the Laurel Learning Center.

At this meeting you will hear an overview of the archery program, expectations of youth and adults, safety procedures, fill out paperwork, and have time for questions and answers. The first practices will be held at 6:30 p.m., Nov. 10 and Nov. 24 at the Laurel Public School gym.

The leader of the Cedar County 4-H Sharp Shooters is Ella Vance.

The Nebraska 4-H Shooting Sports program aims to help youth learn to safely and responsibly use firearms and archery equipment, find out about wildlife conservation and habitat improvement, learn life-long recreational activities, and develop self-concept, character and personal growth.
