HARTINGTON — Gary Heine, 13, recently presented a demonstration of artificial respiration, using his brother Gene, 11, to show the procedure on. Gary recently won a purple ribbon at the State Fair with the demonstration.

HARTINGTON — Merle Palmer of Hartington has been named Cedar County chairman for the National Agricultural hall of Fame Campaign.

The announcement came from J. W. “Wes” Lusche of Columbus, District 9 chairman for Nebraska. In making the appointment, Lusche said, “Cedar county and the Hall of Fame are fortunate in having Mr. Palmer’s close association with agriculture and agricultural youth activities. This assures recognition and representation for the area in this national project”.

Palmer, who operates the Palmer Hatchery in Hartington, is an active supporter of 4-H and FFA award programs. He is a past president of the Hartington Junior Chamber of Commerce.

HARTINGTON — Plans for the Hartington Chamber of Commerce Halloween party and dance for the youngsters of the community were announced this week.

The Halloween party will be held Saturday. Oct. 31. A king and queen, selected from Hartington’s two high schools, will be crowned at the dance in the city auditorium for the high school students. The dance will start at 9 o’clock. There will be treats and noisemakers at the dance. For the children of grade school age and under there will be free movies and treats at the Lyric Theatre starting at 7 o’clock. The Halloween party and dance is sponsored by the Hartington youngsters with the understanding that they will not go about the city on trickor-treat campaigns. In the past the youngsters have been very good about keeping their part of the bargain.

HARTINGTON — A record crowd of over 100 attended the Cedar County Teachers’ Association meeting in Hartington Oct. 14.

The dinner meeting was held in the First Congregational Church with President Bob Rice of Laurel presiding. Other officers are: Supt. Fred Pokorney, Randolph, Vice President; Frances Specht, Hartington, treasurer; and Mrs. Eva Stratman, Randolph, secretary.

The next meeting will be held Dec. 2 in Belden.

HARTINGTON — James Geisler, Hartington, has been named President of the Student Branch of the American Pharmaceutical Association at the Creighton University School of Pharmacy.
