LAUREL — Mickey Mantle! Who’s he?
When a party called the Wagon Wheel Steak House for Sunday dinner reservations, he told Chuck Roth he wanted the front table because he had Mickey Mantle with him.
Roth says, “Who’s Mickey Mantle?”
Roth was not a baseball fan and didn’t realize Mantle was centerfielder for the world champion New York Yankees baseball team.

COLERIDGE — The new Coleridge Elementary building, which consists of five classrooms, a multipurpose room, an office, first aid room, kitchen and storage room, was officially dedicated Nov. 10.

COLERIDGE — Mrs. Dean Mohr announced that she had sold her husband’s Coleridge funeral home and furniture business. Mr. and Mrs. Joey M. Smith, Hartington, have purchased the business. The business had to be sold after the death of her husband.

COLERIDGE — Five members of the Coleridge Bulldog football team were named to the Corntassel Conference All-Star team. They were Ronnie Peck, Jim Morrison, Glen Anderson, Roger Fleener and Bill Young.

HARTINGTON — Bert Stolpe, formerly of Belden, has taken a job as publisher of three semi-weekly newspapers in California. Those newspapers are the Ausa Herald, Glendora Press and the Football Advertiser.

HARTINGTON — Robert Weir was one of six county extension agents who retired in the past year.
He was honored at the annual University of Nebraska Agricultural Extension Service conference on Nov. 8.

DIXON — Keith Lubberstedt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Lubberstedt of Dixon, will be among the Nebraska exhibitors at the International Livestock Exposition to be held in Chicago. Keith will show an Angus steer which was the reserve champion winner at the Dixon County Fair.

LAUREL — Midland College wrapped up its 1963 football season with the top mark in four seasons and the championship in the Tri-State Conference. Participating from Laurel was John Haskell, a starting offensive and defensive tackle. He is a senior and lettered three seasons with the Warriors.

COLERIDGE — A group of local hunters learned an expensive lesson this past week. They found out they were hunting on some land owned by South Dakota after bagging a large deer. The hunters were fined a total of $1,200.

LINCOLN — The 1973 Nebraska Community Improvement Program came to a festive close Friday night a the Radisson-Cornhusker Hotel when the winners were announced at the Awards Day Banquet attended by over 900 persons from across the state.
Coleridge earned the top award in its population category.
The various awards were presented to the chairmen of the community improvement councils by Gov. J.
James Exon who commended the efforts of the thousands of Nebraskans who tirelessly work to make their communities better places.

COLERIDGE — The Coleridge Community was presented the Conservation Award Thursday by the Sioux City Chamber of Commerce.
The award is one given in each surrounding state to deserving communities. The award was presented due to local efforts in the Nebraska Community Improvement Contest.

WYNOT — The Cedar County American Legion and Auxiliary convention was held Sunday at the Wynot Legion Hall.
Paul Moody of Hartington was guest speaker of the Subject of American apathy in government.
Following the banquet the Legion held their business meeting at the Legion Hall. Don Storm, Coleridge commander, was elected county vice commander.
