LWML Fall Rally held Oct. 24 in Martinsburg

MARTINSBURG — The LWML Wayne Zone Fall Rally was held on Oct. 24 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Martinsburg.

Patti Von Minden, President of the Trinity LWML, gave the welcome. Pastor Hill gave a Reformation dev otion based on Luke 22:33. The group sang “O Little Flock, Fear Not the Foe.”

Pastor Blanken led the Bible Study “The Gospel and Its Fruits” the theme verse was Galatians 22-23a.

Following a short break, Dawn Gilfry from Fremont spoke. She is part of the Lutheran Church Charities K-9 Ministries. Also with her were Katie and Phinehas and their handlers.

Dawn explained the dogs receive 2,000 hours of training before they are placed. Handlers also receive special training. Each dog has a host family and several handlers. All handlers and trainers are volunteers.

The challenge question they use each deployment is “How can you bring comfort to others?”

Following a delicious lunch served by the Trinity Ladies, the Zone business meeting was held.

Mallory Calvert from Hope Lutheran Church, South Sioux City, gave a report on her participation in the L WML 2023 National Convention held in Milwaukee, WI, as a Young Woman Representative. Following her presentation President Rhonda Sebade presented Mallory with a photo album of pictures taken at the convention.

President Rhonda Sebade called the meeting to order. We opened by reciting the LWML Pledge.

Roll Call: Altona, First Trinity 0; Tri parish; Concord, St. Paul & Wakefield, Immanuel and St. John’s 5; Winside, St Paul 1; So Sioux City, Hope Lutheran 7; Laurel, Immanuel 4; Wayne, Grace 6; Martinsburg, Trinity 14 and 3 guests for a total of 40.

Minutes from the 2022 Fall Rally were read by Secretary Ellen Heinemann. The minutes were approved as read.

Treasurers report was given by Patti V on Minden. Balance on hand of $829.03. Treasurers’ books were audited by Connie Schroeder and Donna Durant and found to be in order. Audit accepted.

Offering collected for the Comfort Dogs $625, the Zone registration and offering was $623.

Vice-president Mary Lou Erxleben reported there were no nomina tions for Secretary or Vice President.

Following discussion, Ellen Heinemann agreed to serve a second term as Secretary and Mary Low Erxleben agreed to serve a second term as Vice-President.

Pastor Werner installed the 2023-2025 officers: Pastor Hill as pastoral consular, Mary Lou Erxleben vice-president and Ellen Heinemann secretary.

President Rhonda Sebade passed out envelopes with mite vouch ers and society reports to each society. She followed with the District report. She reminded the ladies that we need volunteers for the Nation LWML Convention that will be held in Omaha in 2 025.

Pastor Hill’s closing devotion “The Word of the Lord Endures Forever.” The day closed with Singing of the LWML Song and the Lord’s prayer.

The Wayne Zone LWML executive board will meet Jan. 16, 2024, at 1:30 in the fellowship hall at Grace L utheran Church, Wayne. Meeting adjourned.
