COLERIDGE — The skating rink here in town is now frozen over and being used by the local students. The boys and girls have been spending their Christmas vacation there.

COLERIDGE — A Ford touring car was completely wrecked this past Saturday. Dwight Romer was driving the car just south of his home when suddenly the lights went out on it. The car started heading for the ditch and flipped over. But Romer had jumped out before it did so he escaped uninjured.

COLERIDGE — Loren Baker, Ross Wheeler, and Frank Rose fished at Crystal Lake on Tuesday. They returned with two small pickerel.

RANDOLPH — Earl Sutherland, vice president of First State Bank here, has acquired an interest in the Coleridge National Bank and started as managing officer of the bank as of January 1.

COLERIDGE — Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Smith were honored with a going away party at their home Sunday evening.
Their plan is to move to Shenandoah, Iowa.

COLERIDGE — Troop 146 Boy Scouts of Coleridge enjoyed a pancake feed Monday. About 20 boys attended.

LAUREL — The Eastern Star lodge had the installation of officers Monday night. The following are the officers and the newly installed officers: Mrs. Linn, worthy matron; John Campbell, worthy patron; Bernice Harper, associate matron; Roy Lathrop, associate patron; Teresa Campbell, secretary; Mary Dimick, treasurer; Myra Herse, conductress; Marie Schutte, associate conductress; points of the star: Adah, Hilda Mittelstadt; Ruth, Florence Fredricksen; Ester, Irma Coburn; Martha, Kay Mittelstadt; Electa, Bertha Harper, Velma Frans, marshall; Clara Stewart, organist; Famy Ericson, warden; Josie Shearer sentinel; and Ellen Artman, chaplain. Mrs. B.H. Bell was the installing officer and Mrs. Herse was marshall.

LAUREL — 1st Lt. John E. O’Gara, Laurel, 26-year-old former student at the Nebraska State Teachers’ College is stationed at an Eighth Air Force Flying fortress base in England, assigned to duty as bombsight maintenance and automatic flight control officer. The son of Mr. and Mrs.
Edward W. O’Gara, Laurel, Lt. O’Gara, a graduate in June 1935 of the Laurel High, interrupted his studies at college, where he majored in science and education to enlist in the AAF as a flying cadet in January 1942.

LAUREL— A meeting of the board of directors of the Laurel Commerce Club was held at the light plant Tuesday for the purpose of organizing for the coming year. At this time officers of the club were elected as follows: E.C. Huddleston, president and Andrew Paulsen, vice-president.
The office of secretary-treasurer remains to be filled, this office having been left vacant by the resignation of M.F.
Lawrence who has done a fine job in the position.

LAUREL-A recent graduate of the Naval training school for yeoman on the Oklahoma A&M University campus at Stillwater, OK, yeoman third class Shirley Peterson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H.A. Peterson of this city, has reported for active duty at a California craft training center.
