OMAHA — Betty Ann (Becker) Johnson, 95, died Sept. 27, 2026, in Omaha. Betty was born April 7, 1931, in Hartington, to Edmund and Loretta Becker. She and her brother, Gerald “Jerry,” grew up on the family farm near Fordyce. Betty attended grade school in Fordyce and later graduated from Holy Trinity High School, Hartington, where she made many lifelong friends with whom she enjoyed going to local dances. After high school, Betty moved to Omaha and began working as a secretary. Soon after, she met her future husband, Dennis Johnson. They were married Feb. 19, 1955, in Fordyce. In 1956, the family moved to a farm near Bloomfield, where they raised their three children, Cynthia “Cyndi,” Harold, and David. After moving to Omaha in 1969, Betty began working in wiring at Western Electric, where she made many close friends and joined a bowling league. She and Dennis would take the kids on road trips to Jackson Hole, Wyo., a favorite destination of theirs. In 1992, she and Dennis moved to an acreage near Oakland, where they often hosted family gatherings. Their grandchildren have many fond country memories of card playing, searching for new kittens, riding horses, driving tractors and helping Grandpa and Grandma with chores. In 2011, Betty returned with Dennis to Omaha, where she would live for the remainder of her life.
Some of Betty’s favorite pastimes included bowling, reading, playing slots at the casino, traveling (visiting nearly all 50 states) and attending Mass. She stayed close to her Cedar County roots by regularly attending class reunions and visiting her family and friends in the area. She will be remembered for her kindness, faith, humor and patience.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Cyndi Pereira, Omaha; son, Harold, Omaha; son, David, Colorado Springs, Colo.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Roland and Mary Johnson, Wausa; 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
