Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home in Coleridge. Lucille was born April 3, 1934, to Roland and Susie DeLong, on a farm south of Burwell. Her grandmother, Vernie DeLong, assisted the doctor with her birth. She was born a twin. When she was 5 years old, she was afflicted with polio, and suffered life-long effects. She graduated from Belden, and attended one year of college at Wayne State. Lucille married Dean Holcomb May 20, 1953. Together they raised six children and lovingly fostered two boys. Lucille and Dean also operated a Grade A dairy on their farm west of Coleridge. Lucille worked faithfully beside Dean, helping with the many daily responsibilities of farm and family life.
Lucille was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she participated in Circle. She also served on the Cedar County Election Board and was involved with the Women’s Legion Auxiliary. Lucille later built a home in Laurel, where she became a member of United Lutheran Church and continued to live out her faith.
Lucille enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, sewing, reading, playing cards and dominoes and cutting her family members’ hair. A gracious and generous host, she welcomed guests into her home and always had food ready to share. No one left Lucille’s table hungry.
Lucille is survived by her children, Ralph (Jean) Holcomb, Wausa; Dale (Doreen) Holcomb, Volin, S.D.; Daniel (Sheila) Holcomb, Le Mars, Iowa; Deborah (Darrell) Kotalik, South Sioux City; Diane (Kenny) Lundahl, Laurel; and Michael (Jill) Holcomb, Norfolk; her grandchildren, Kevin Holcomb, Roland (Melissa) Holcomb, Kayla (Jerry) Herron, Jarod Holcomb, Sean (Amanda) Kotalik, Danielle Widi, Ryan Kotalik, Alyssa Lundahl, Tyler Holcomb, Matthew (Katie) Lundahl and Erica Holcomb; 16 great-grandchildren; her brothers, Ralph (Laura) DeLong and Paul (Carol) DeLong; her sister-in-law, Doris Holcomb; her special friend, Melody Storm; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
