LAUREL — Lonnie G. Nixon, 78, Laurel, died June 11, 2026, at his home in Laurel. Visitation was June 15 at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home, Wakefield. A Celebration of Life Service was June 16 also at Munderloh-Smith Funeral Home. The burial with Military Honors was in the Wakefield Cemetery. Lunch followed the burial in the Munderloh Smith Funeral Home Community Room. Lonnie was born May 29, 1948, in Wakefield, to Ivan and Wilma (Schnier) Nixon. He attended Country School north of Wakefield and graduated from Wakefield High School in 1966. Shortly after graduation, Lonnie enlisted into the United States Marine Corps and served three years, including a tour in the Vietnam War. Upon his return home, Lonnie married his high school sweetheart, Marcia Krusemark Dec.6, 1969, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Wakefield. Lonnie continued his education, attending Wayne State College, where he played football and earned his degree in geography and physical education.
Lonnie got started in the auction business with his father, Ivan, and his brothers and brother-in-law at Nixon Auctioneers. Eventually, Lonnie worked full-time at building Nixon Auctioneers with his family.He spent his entire working career as an auctioneer and had auctions in 48 differentstates over his career. They traveled all over the United States selling antique tractors, gas engines and cast-iron seats.
In his spare time, Lonnie enjoyed golfing and playing NCAA football on his PlayStation. He loved his family and loved attending sporting events and activities of his children and grandchildren as much as he could. He was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Laurel, and the Wakefield American Legion.
Lonnie is survived by his wife, Marcia Nixon; children, Kyle (Marnie) Nixon; daughter, Stacy (Nate) Sovereign; son, Tyler (Catherine) Nixon; grandchildren, McKenna Nixon, Morgan Nixon (fiancé, Tarence Roby), Rainy Nixon, Ella Nixon, Alec (McKenna) Sovereign and Dru Sovereign; great-grandchildren, Graham Sovereign and Carter Sovereign; sister, Jan (Clay) Stalling; sister-in-law, Marlys Nixon; brothers-in-law, Ron (Corliss) Krusemark, Merle (Cheri) Krusemark, Gary (Cathy) Krusemark;and sister-inlaw, Brenda (Paul) Stuart.
Lonnie is preceded in death by his parents,Ivan and Wilma Nixon; brothers, Mert (Marlene) Nixon, Eldy Nixon and Willie Nixon.
