John Raymond “Jack” Hintz was born the middle son of five boys to Charles and Lois (Rose) Hintz March 24, 1944, in Sioux City, Iowa, and was raised on a farm near Belden. He was baptized and confirmed in the Methodist Church, Belden. He attended Belden Public School and graduated in 1962. From the time he could drive, he drove trucks with his dad and two older brothers. Jack married Rozanne Hangman April 24, 1965, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hartington. The couple lived in Norfolk, Belden, South Sioux, and for the last 50 years, in Dixon.
They enjoyed camping and boating on the Missouri River. Jack drove truck first for his father’s business “Hintz Trucking” and later drove for various companies including Palmer Candy Company and Hirschbach. He won a safety award while trucking after farming for a few years. Jack even broadened his horizons by taking on the challenge of oil rigging for Hellstar at one time. He co-owned Liquor Back Jack’s Bar, Dixon, with his brother, Chuck. He also worked for a time at Ponca State Park. Jack retired from Wayne State College after 25 years as a groundskeeper.
Jack’s favorite time of year was deer hunting season. Every year he looked forward to hunting with his nephew, Ryan; his son-in-law, Mike; and his grandson, Scot. He also went on many fishing trips with family and friends in South Dakota. He always loved having a big Christmas Eve party each year with friends and family.
He is remembered by his wife, Rozanne; children, Suzy (Brad) Gonzales, Brenda Surber, and John (Katrina) Hintz; grandchildren, Scot (Jessica) Surber, Tyler Surber, Alex (Emma) Gonzales, Cortny (Luke) Tyler, Megan (Colton) Oswald, Lauren Gonzales, John Marcus Hintz, Jacob Hintz, Joshua Hintz and Jesse Hintz.
