RANDOLPH — Funeral services for Merle A. Schutt, 98, Randolph, will be 10:30 a.m., April 29, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Randolph. Dwight Brummels, PMA, will officiate, with interment in Randolph City Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church. Home for Funerals – Randolph is in charge of arrangements. Merle died April 23, 2026, at the Colonial Manor, Randolph. Merle Arthur was born Dec. 25, 1927, to T.W. “Bill” and Hannah (Huff) Schutt on the farm northeast of Scholes. He lived in the house where he was born for over 90 years. Merle attended a one room school at Cedar County District #38 SE for eight years and attended Randolph High School for one year. Then Merle farmed with his parents. They milked cows, fed cattle, and raised hogs and sheep. He liked to work with the livestock and go the livestock auction markets in Norfolk and Laurel. He bought a Buffalo calf in Valentine, and he had her on the farm for 19 years.

Merle was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. He was a longtime member of St. John’s, Randolph, where he served on the church council for several terms from 1978-1989.

He farmed and took care of his livestock until he was 80 years old. In 2008, he sold his livestock and his cows and rented the land out. Merle continued to help some with farming, planting, and harvesting for several years.

In his spare time, Merle enjoyed playing cards. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Fern (Anna Lee) Schutt,and Alfred (Eileen) Schutt; sister, Gladys (Art) Backer; and niece, La-Vonne (Backer) Dziurawiec.

Merle is survived by 15 nieces and nephews; and many great- and greatgreat-nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the American Cancer Society.
