Janice Magdaline was born April 4, 1936, in Fordyce, to Howard and Mildred (Tramp) Loeb. The family moved to a farm south of Randolph on Highway 35 for several years, then moved to the Loeb farm north of Carroll. Janice attended rural schools and graduated from Carroll High School in 1953, at the age of 17 years. She loved horses and could often be seen riding around the countryside on her horse, Tony. After graduation she attended Wayne State College to become a teacher. So at age 17, she began a teaching career that she continued for the next 17 years. Jan married the man she loved, Leo Casey, Dec. 27, 1956, at the Catholic Church, Carroll. They started farming north of Carroll and later moved to a farm north of Belden, where their son, Donald Leo, was born in 1960. She and Leo moved to Sioux City, Iowa, where Leo began his construction and roofing business and Jan continued teaching school. In 1964, their daughter, Debra Lynn, was born on St. Patrick’s Day. A year later, their son, James Howard, was born. Jan and Leo purchased a house in Laurel in 1965, where they continued to live until they built their own home. They owned and operated the roofing business, the carwash, Lumber Yard, a motel, and the West Randolph Ballroom (which they owned and operated for 32 years).

Janice is survived by her son, Jim (Dawn Ebmeier) Casey, Laurel; five grandchildren, Julia (Mathieu) LaVigne, Calvin (Michaela Strathman) Casey, Nolan (Sara Carlson) Casey, Anna (Billy) Trosper and Kolby Casey; five great-grandchildren, Mathieu Jr., Dorothy and Magdalena LaVigne, Taytum and Rhett Casey; step sister, Lonna Curtis, Las Vegas, Nev.; sisters-in-law, Laurie Loeb, Sioux City, Iowa, and Jackie Casey, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and nephew, Bob Jr. Loeb, Sioux City, Iowa.
