YANKTON, S.D. — David J. Rolfes, 72, Yankton, S.D., died March 25, 2026, at his home in Yankton.
A memorial service was March 31 at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home, Yankton, with Rev. Bob Lacey officiating. Burial will be at a later date in St. Boniface Cemetery, Menominee. The family received friends one hour prior to the memorial service at the Wintz & Ray Funeral Home.
David J. Rolfes was born July 2, 1953, in Yankton, to Jerome and Anna Mae (Heine) Rolfes. He grew up and attended grade school in Menominee, and graduated from Cedar Catholic High School, Hartington. He then began hog farming, and farmed in Nebraska, South Dakota and Kansas. In 2006, David began trucking, which took him to 46 of the lower 48 states.
David had a sweet tooth and a great sense of humor. He was always trying to make you smile or laugh. He was a generous and helpful man, always bringing things back from his trips and grocery shopping for other residents in his apartment.
Survivors include his three children, Kari (Julius II) Elam, Tripp, S.D.; Steven Rolfes, Yankton, S.D., and Samantha (Chris) Barth, Lincoln; eight grandchildren; two brothers, Ron (Rose) Rolfes, Wynot, and Charles Rolfes, Minneapolis, Minn.; two sisters, Joann (Ron) Suing, Crofton, and Rose (Dave) Goeden, Yankton, S.D.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Kenny Rolfes.
