Ellen Louise Dickey Erwin
Ellen Louise Dickey Erwin
Ellen graduated from Laurel High School in 1966. She married the love of her life, Richard Dean Erwin, June 30, 1968. Together, they built a life centered on faith, family, and service to others.
Ellen was the proud owner and operator of Tot Spot Preschool for 15 years, where she touched the lives of countless children and families. Her passion for music and enriching the lives of others was evident throughout her life. A lifelong member of the United Methodist Church in Laurel, she served as a church choir director and pianist for over 60 years.
“Gramma Ellen,” as she was affectionately referred to by many, had a special gift for connecting with people and making each person feel genuinely loved and valued. She founded the Grandma Reading Program, bringing local grandmothers into Laurel-Concord Elementary School to read with students — creating meaningful connections across generations.
Ellen cherished friendships and building community. She started FFF (First Friday Friends), a group that gathered regularly at the Apothecary, creating a space for laughter, support and lasting friendships.
Above all, Ellen was known for the deep love she had for her grandchildren and the Lord. Her life was a reflection of her faith, kindness and servant’s heart. Her daily calls and texts were a gift to cherish.
Ellen’s piano will be donated to Midland University, Fremont, in honor of Rich and Ellen.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and sister, Diane Lake.
