Richard Dean Erwin
Rich graduated from Laurel High School in 1965, and Midland Lutheran College in 1969. He proudly served his country as a sergeant in the United States Air Force Reserve.
He married his high school sweetheart, Ellen Louise Dickey, June 30, 1968. Their partnership was the foundation of a legacy that touched many in their community.
Rich dedicated his life to agriculture as a farmer and livestock breeder. In 1984, he became the owner of Laurel Feed & Grain, where he built lasting relationships over decades of trusted service. Known to many as “Big Dog,” Rich carried a presence that was both strong and steady.
He was deeply committed to his community, serving on the Laurel- Concord School Board in various roles and giving 48 years of service to the REA. Richard was also an active member of the American Quarter Horse Association and found great joy in raising registered quarter horses and trail riding.
A confirmed member of the United Methodist Church, Laurel, Rich lived his faith through quiet service, integrity and dedication to others.
In his final act of generosity, Richard was an organ and tissue donor, continuing his legacy of helping others even beyond his lifetime.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Ellen Louise Erwin.
Rich and Ellen will be lovingly remembered by their children, Todd and Shana Erwin; Jeramy and Tara Klausen; and Tyler and Lindsey Erwin; their grandchildren, Trey, Ty and Tali Erwin; Frankie (Klausen) and Weston Reiman and Rubie Klausen; Adyson and Emerson Erwin; siblings, Bill and Mona (Dickey) Schutte, Steve and Star (Dickey) Smith, Shane and Joan (Erwin) Giese and Rod Erwin, along with many extended family members and dear friends.
