Cathy June Huetig was born in Sioux City, Iowa, Aug. 27, 1948, to Walter Dale and Phyllis June (Roland) Huetig. She graduated from Belden High School in 1966, and continued her education attending University of South Dakota,Vermillion, graduating with her bachelor of Fine Arts in Music Education degree. Later, she attended Wayne State College where she earned her Pre-School - 12 School Administration endorsement and later her master of science in education degree. While attending graduate school, Cathy held numerous part-time jobs. Her teaching career spanned over several communities including: K-12 music teacher at Sutherland, Iowa Community School, David City, Humphrey St. Francis Catholic School, Sidney, McCool Junction, Laurel/ Concord, Western Nebraska Technical College at Sidney, Randolph and Stromsburg. Cathy then returned as a substitute teacher for all subject areas at Randolph and Coleridge Public Schools until her retirement.
Cathy devoted her life’s work to teaching. By communicating well with the students, she was aectionately nick-named "Happy," which she readily accepted, and it caught on in the general community. The highlight of her career was being named as the graduation commencement speaker for the Randolph High School class of 2023.
The loss of Cathy’s enduring love for her students, pets, family, friends, the Huskers and life in general, will leave an emptiness in their hearts forever.
Cathy is survived by her brother, Douglas R. “Ted” Huetig, Randolph; cousins; and many, many friends and former students.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Phyllis; infant, brother, Charles D. Huetig; and sister-in-law, Dianna A. (Harris) Huetig.
