RANDOLPH — Funeral services for Marvin I. Jensen, 88, Randolph, were Jan. 9 at the St. John’s Lutheran Church, Randolph. PMA Dwight Brummels officiated the service.
Following the funeral luncheon, interment was at the Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Norfolk.
Visitation was Thursday, also at St. John’s Lutheran Church.
Casket bearers were Rick Verzani, Dave Cunningham, Leighton Jensen, Michael Jensen, Gail Cunningham and Tim Jensen.
Military rites were conducted at the cemetery by the American Legion Post 16, V.F.W. Post 1644, and the United States Army Honor Guard.
Marvin died Jan. 5, 2026, at his residence in Randolph. Stonacek Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
Marvin was born Oct. 13, 1937, in Dorsey, to Irwin Walter and Elizabeth Amelia (Opkis) Jensen. He moved to Randolph with his parents and four sisters in 1942. Marvin was baptized in Lindy, and later confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Randolph. He attended grades K-8 at Rural District 93, graduated from Randolph High School in 1955, served in the army for two years and attended Montevallo State College, Montevallo, Ala. Marvin and Shirley L. Guy were married Oct. 20, 1957, at the First Baptist Church, Vincent, Ala.
Marvin and Shirley were blessed with a son, Randal and a daughter, Lynell. After Marvin completed his tour in the army, Marvin and Shirley moved to a farm five miles north of Randolph in 1959, and in 2002, they moved to town. Marvin has been engaged in farming for 51 years and Shirley retired from teaching in 1997, after teaching at Randolph High School for 34 years.
Marvin was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Randolph, and served on St. John’s Lutheran Church council for four years. He was also a past member of RFS Board of Directors.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and playing with his dog, Jacks. Marvin resided with his sister, Elda Cunningham in Randolph since June 2021.
Survivors include his son, Randal L. (Ginger) Jensen, Norfolk; four grandchildren, Vanessa M. Hajek, Wichita, Kan.; Timothy R. Jensen (Angie Tate), Stanton; Michael J. Jensen, West Point; Alisha M. (Gus) Steinmetz, Mitchell, S.D.; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; sisters, Mae Reuter, Dakota Dunes, S.D.; Elda Cunningham, Randolph; and June Anderson, Neligh.
Marvin was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley L. Jensen, in 2019; daughter, Lynell K. Hajek; parents, Irwin and Elizabeth Jensen; sister, Janet DeLozier; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ben D. and Roxie Mae Guy.
Memorials may be made to the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Randolph.
