Avis L. Anderson
Avis L. Anderson

Avis was born November 4, 1924, to Robert and Marjorie (Bayne) Munter at Randolph, Nebraska. She was the 5th of 8 children. Avis attended District 68 country school and graduated from Laurel High School in 1941.
Avis married her high school sweetheart, Robert Anderson, on March 2, 1944, at the Union Church in Belden, Nebraska, when Bob was home on leave from the United States Army, serving during WWII. While Bob was in Europe, she lived with and helped her parents on the family farm. She assisted with the war effort by making bombs at Mead, Nebraska and was recognized for her work by the Rosie the Riveter Association.
At the end of the war, Avis & Bob lived in the Laurel area, where they became the proud parents of four children: Rick, Larry, Danielle, and Steve. Bob’s job with Nebraska Public Power took them to Chadron, Gordon, and Big Springs, where Bob retired. They enjoyed 72 and a half years of marriage. On Avis’s maternal side, her ancestry relates her to the Billington & Eaton families who sailed on the Mayflower. During Avis’s lifetime, she enjoyed baking, canning, and sewing. She had fond memories of her square dancing days and traveling.
Avis was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Big Springs. She was Baptized on June 17, 1928, and Confirmed in her Baptism on June 12, 1938, at the Union Church in Belden, Nebraska. During her lifetime, her greatest joy was her family and extended family.
Avis was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Marjorie (Bayne) Munter; twin infant sisters, Loretta and Lorena, who entered into rest during the Great Flu Epidemic of 1918; brothers, Elmer (Harriet) Munter and Robert Duane (Evelyn) Munter; sister, Arlene (Merle) Freitag; brother-in-law, Richard Herse; daughter-in-law, Vickie Anderson; and grandson, Scott Mauser.
