Officiating the services were Father Vogel, along with Deacon Doug Tunink. Interment followed the funeral at St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Cemetery, Randolph.
Visitation and a vigil service were Monday, also at the church.
Norma died Nov. 27, 2025, at the Park View Haven Nursing Home, Coleridge, after receiving lengthy hospice care.
Stonacek Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
Norma was born Sept. 4, 1932, to Adolph and Martha (Wohlman) Brodersen in Coleridge. She attended country school before attending and graduating from Randolph High School in 1949. After high school, she attended business secretarial school. Norma married George Thelen, Jr., at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Leeds, Iowa, Dec. 27, 1950. They spent nearly all of their 68 years of marriage living in the Randolph area. In 1955, George and Norma purchased a farm north of Randolph on the Correction Line. They farmed until 2003, when George and Norma semi-retired.
She spent her life as a farm wife, homemaker, and mother. She was a member of St. Jane Frances de Chantal Catholic Church.
One of Norma’s biggest enjoyments was spending time with her family. She was an avid quilter, loved doing crossword puzzles, and enjoyed baking pies and desserts for those she loved.
Norma is survived by eight children, Michael Thelen, Lincoln; Chuck and Pat Thelen, Greg and Dot Thelen, John and Kelly Thelen, and Andy and Tina Thelen, all of Randolph; Maureen and David Lewis, Eyota, Minn.; Joe and Ann Thelen, Johnston, Iowa; Dan and Sharie Thelen, Norfolk; and daughter-in-law, Jane Thelen, Fordyce. She is also survived by her sister, Joann McBain, Billings, Mont.; brother-in-law, Norb Thelen; and sister-in-law Maryann Tunink, Randolph. In addition, Norma is survived by 22 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; sons, Patrick, David and Doug; her parents, Adolph and Martha Brodersen; parentsin- law, George, Sr. and Anna Thelen; siblings, Donald, Delores and Darrell; as well as many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law and other loved ones.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
