HARTINGTON — Randy L. Evans, 70, Hartington, died Nov. 21, 2025, at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, S.D., due to complications from several strokes.
Funeral services will be Nov. 26, at 3 p.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, Hartington, with the Rev. Amanda Talley officiating.
Burial will be at the Hartington City Cemetery, at a later date.
Pallbearers will be Andy Evans, Eric Gratzfeld, Kevin Lammers, Roy Creekmore and Mark Ford.
Visitation, with Randy’s body present, was Tuesday at the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington, and will continue Wednesday, at church, one hour prior to services.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Wintz Funeral Home, Hartington.
Randy Lee was born March 24, 1955, in O’Neill, to Merlin Charles and LaVerne Katrina Marie (Haahr) Evans. He grew up in Hartington and graduated from Hartington High School in 1973, the last year in the old school. Randy worked for the Auto Hospital, Hartington, doing vehicle repair. He then worked at Schulte Buick. Randy then began a career at Hydraulic Components, Hartington, which he worked at for 29 years. Randy began working at Bomgaars, Yankton, S.D., and later retired.
Randy married Catherine Lea Johnson Sept. 1, 2000, in Hartington. Randy was the family historian, knowing specifics about people, places and things. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Hartington Volunteer Fire Department for many years. Randy belonged to Ducks Unlimited for over 40 years and helped with their annual dinner and auction. He loved to hunt and fish, and was very attached to his animals, especially his dogs, Marley and Cocoa. Randy was always ready to engage in conversation and also give people a hard time. Most of all he loved his wife, Cathy, and his children and grandchildren.
Randy is survived by his wife, Cathy, Hartington; children, Alisha (Eric) Gratzfeld, Yankton, S.D.; Andy (Robin) Evans, Springfield, S.D.; Eric (Geneva) Arthur, North Carolina; six grandchildren; brother, Mike Evans, Texas; sister, Sharon (Kevin) Lammers, Hartington; daughter-in-law, Stacey Bottolfsen Arthur, Lincoln; mother-in-law, Syvella Nickel, Yankton, S.D.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Merlin and LaVerne Evans; sons, Josh Arthur, Dave Arthur, Mark Evans; and father-in-law, Bill Nickel.
